GENERAL SERVICES ADMINISTRATION APPROVAL

SHEPPARD ENVELOPE RECEIVES GENERAL SERVICES ADMINISTRATION APPROVAL FOR ITS IDENTITY THEFTGUARD™ RFID SHIELDING SLEEVE

Sheppard Envelope Co. of Auburn, MA announced today that it has received approval from the General Services Administration for its IDENTITY THEFTGUARD™ RFID shielding sleeve for Personal Identity Verification (PIV) card devices. This approval provides Sheppard with inclusion in the GSA’s Approved Products List (APL# 1276) under FIPS 201. FIPS 201 (Federal Information Processing Standard, Publication 201) provides PIV (Personal Identity Verification) standards for Government employees and contractors. According to Project Manager Ed Haddad, most people know these PIV card devices as Identification Badges that are used not only by Government Agencies, but Hospitals, Educational Institutions and many Private Businesses. These cards have evolved from simple ID Badges to “Smart Cards” that allow access to buildings as well as secured areas and storage. The IDENTITY THEFTGUARD™ sleeve is designed as a carry case or ‘transport” device that blocks the “Smart Card” from being involuntarily read. ID theft has become a major issue with the availability of hand held scanners that are used to gather information from these “Smart Cards” without the knowledge of the cards owner. Because of their shielding properties, these transport sleeves can also be used for protection of credit cards, debit cards, ATM cards and passports that contain magnetic strips or chips.
